Why some videos can't play in the app (VIDEO_NOT_PLAYABLE_IN_EMBEDDED_PLAYER error)

Why you're seeing "VIDEO_NOT_PLAYABLE_IN_EMBEDDED_PLAYER" VoiceTube videos are embedded from YouTube. When the original uploader has disabled embedded playback on their YouTube channel, the video cannot be played inside the VoiceTube in-app player and you'll see the VIDEO_NOT_PLAYABLE_IN_EMBEDDED_PLAYER error. This is a YouTube-side setting controlled by the video owner — VoiceTube cannot enable playback for you, and your network, device, and the app are not at fault. What you can do | What you want to do | Suggested step | | --- | --- | | Keep learning | Most videos play normally — just pick another course or a recommended video and continue | | Report this video | Tap Report a problem at the top of the video page. Android app shows "Communication failed" or saved videos won't play

What you're seeing On the VoiceTube Android app, a video stays stuck loading, you see a "Communication failed" message, or a video you previously saved for offline viewing refuses to open. In most cases this is not a problem with the video itself — it's a network, app cache, or sign-in state issue. This is different from the VIDEO_NOT_PLAYABLE_IN_EMBEDDED_PLAYER error, which is a YouTube-side restriction (see the related article below). Try these 4 steps in order | Step | What to do | | --- | --- | | 1. Switch your network | Toggle from Wi-Fi to mobile data (or the other way around) and retry. You can also turn airplane mode on for 5 seconds and back off to force a fresh connection | | 2. Update the app | Open the Google Play Store, search for "VoiceTube", and tap Update if the button is shown | | 3. Clear the app cache | Device Settings → Apps → VoiceTube → Storage → Clear cache (use Clear cache, not Clear data — clearing data signs you out) | | 4. Sign out and back in | Sign out inside the app → fully close the app → reopen → sign in again. This also resolves account-sync glitches | How is this different from VIDEO_NOT_PLAYABLE_IN_EMBEDDED_PLAYER? If your error message reads VIDEO_NOT_PLAYABLE_IN_EMBEDDED_PLAYER, that means the YouTube uploader has disabled embedded playback for that specific video and VoiceTube cannot override it. See Why some videos can't play in the app instead. This article covers the network- and app-side "communication failed / won't load" failures. Related reading: Video not playing?
